Located near the Mississippi River, The Craftsman building's been serving locals since 1942 when it opened as the Sippi Bar. In 1985 Mike Dooley and Susan Kennedy-Dooley purchased the property and opened Molly Quinn's Pub & Pizzeria. The building was rehabbed and a large outdoor patio created. The Molly Quinn's business relocated in 2003. In 2004 the Dooleys opened The Craftsman Restaurant, after the building and grounds underwent an addition and substantial makeover in the Arts & Crafts tradition. The building and decor now reflects the Longfellow neighborhood's trademark bungalows and craftsman-style homes.
The Craftsman kitchen embraces the Arts & Crafts philosophy of respecting the earth and living in harmony with nature. The menu changes seasonally to take advantage of the great variety of organic produce, naturally raised meat, poultry, seafood, and artisinal cheeses from local farmers and coops. In house canning and preserving extends the season's bounty.
